FROM THE EDITOR.S PEN
My dear young poets and poetry lovers,
Heartiest greetings to you on the sacred occasion of the India's completion of sixty successful years as one of the largest democracies in the world, on behalf of the Young Poets Club of India and on my own behalf ! It is indeed a great occasion for all of us to rejoice! While some of the neighboring countries who secured independence with us, a little earlier or later are in great turmoil, we stand tall with our head high. The credit goes to the greatness of our culture and civilization and the inherent strength that it has provided to us. Notwithstanding several problems
faced by us in several spheres, we retain our splendour. Let every one of us on this great occasion resolve to give our best to ensure a happier, more peaceful, more prosperous future for our country - India that is Bharath! Such a grand future lies in the hands of the vibrant and responsible youth of this great nation. Let us in our own way contribute for a corruption free society - a society well informed and responsible, a society that is sensitive to the needs of the nation, a society that will usher in a new era in which a developed India will be born much earlier than 2020!

I am glad to share with you all that the XXVII World Congress of Poets will take place in Chennai during 31st August to 7th September 2007 in which around two hundred leading poets from all over the world are expected to participate. A committee of hosts under the leadership of Justice S Mohan is organizing the Congress . The goal and aim of the Congress is "World Brotherhood and Peace Through Poetry". The organizers have the strongest conviction that "Poetry Purifies Human Lives". On behalf of the Young Poets Club of India and all those connected with the organization, I extend a warm welcome to the delegates and wish them a Congress that will stand ever green in their minds. I shall give an exhaustive report on the proceedings of the congress for your benefit in the next issue of Young Poet.
As usual you will find interesting poems created by our young poets and you will in addition find two poems from the
senior poets, which is going to be a regular feature in future. This is in deference to the wishes of senior poets for a long time and it will be in the interest of the young poets to go through the same and get guided.
I give below a poem composed long back in praise of this great country and its independence titled "Mera Bharat Mahan"
for your perusal.
Six thousand years of civilization
Sixty years of independent nation
Sacrifices of millions with patience
Brought great glory with satisfaction!
Fragmented states a shame on its face
Sans unity among men, freedom a farce
Sans economic freedom, society a trace
Leading to dependence without any grace!
Great country, great people
Noble thoughts, noble deeds
Splendid efforts, splendid results
Hallowed Himalayas, revered rivers
Fertile fields, priceless minerals
Forest wealth, unlimited opportunities
Godly saints, sacred seers
Mera Bharath Mahan!
Together we go, together we grow, together we prosper,
together we share our knowledge, joys and sorrows!
Wishing you all, all the best till we meet through the next issue!
Yours in literary service
(N.V. Subbaraman)
